In charge of hosting a corporate team building event in Perth and anxious to get it right?

Brainstorming activities that will make the next team bonding exercise really fun?

Unhappy with the last team event, and want to pitch a great idea for the next one?

HERE’S WHAT SEPARATES “MEH” TEAM ACTIVITIES FROM “WHEN ARE WE DOING THIS AGAIN?” TEAM BUILDING EVENTS

The answer in two words: active engagement.

You need to go for a game or an event or a programme that actively engages every single person in the group.

That gives them a clear incentive to take part.

That gets them excited about the outcome.

It is with that in mind that we selected these 10 team activities for corporate team building .

CHECK OUT PERTH ZOO’S PACKS, PRIDES AND TEAM PLAYERS

I know.

“Visit the Zoo” isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you’re trying to think of team building events.

Here’s the thing, though.

Perth Zoo has an amazing activity called Packs, Prides And Team Players.

You’re a team of zoologists that was flying somewhere with a pack of turtles from an endangered species.

Your plane crash lands in the middle of a vast jungle.

Now, it is up to you to find a way out before the turtles you’re carrying die.

GO ON A SURVIVOR CHALLENGE

If the TV show was anything to go by, this is one team building event that your employees and/or colleagues will be thrilled to take part in.

The basic idea is to break the group up into teams, or “tribes” if you want to keep the jargon consistent, who will then be pit against one another in a series of challenges.

To make it even more fun, you can challenge teams to come up with team bandanas and chants.

You can have the challenge anywhere you want, but seeing that we’re in Perth and that passive lifestyles are a real problem in today’s corporate world, you should really look for or devise a challenge that makes use of our natural landscapes.

If you’re looking for an arranged activity, we can point you towards Total Team Building, who have an actual Survivor team programme.

BEAT THE CLOCK IN AN ESCAPE ROOM EXPERIENCE

An escape room game is an opportunity for both team building as well as team bonding.

Never heard of an escape room before?

Here’s the deal:

You and your group will have to accomplish a mission, within a time limit (usually 60 minutes). The mission could be anything – from escaping a magical jungle to helping Sherlock Holmes uncover a destructive plan unleashed by Professor Moriarty.

You’ll have to solve puzzles and discover clues to find your way forward and accomplish your mission.

The experiences are designed to instigate active participation from all team members, and give them an incentive to work together to untangle the mission.

HAVE AN AMAZING RACE

Again, a team building event that takes inspiration from a TV show.

The basic idea would be to plan out a route throughout Perth. Teams would have to pass through a series of checkpoints on their way to the final destination.

At each checkpoint they would have to take part in a challenge. Those who succeed will be given a clue to the next checkpoint while those who fail would be eliminated.

If you’re looking to trigger a sense of competition among the various teams at your workplace, this is one team building exercise that should do it!

If you’re looking for an arranged activity, we can point you towards Beyond the Boardroom, who have an actual Amazing Race team programme.

WHIP UP A MASTERCHEF EVENT

A team building event with a mouthwatering climax.

Sounds good?

Then this is the kind of event you’re looking for – a Masterchef team event.

You can create all kinds of challenges, including:

  • The ingredients challenge: Give 5 ingredients to all the teams. They have to create the best dish they can using only those.
  • The half-hour challenge: Each team gets 30 minutes to whip up a dessert, for example.
  • The mystery box challenge: Each team can pull out an index card from a mystery box to find out what they’lll be preparing.

It might seem that this would appeal only to those folks that have cooking experience or a prior interest at least, but trust me, once you get them in the mood, everyone will be excited to take part.

If you’re looking for an arranged activity, we can point you towards Cheeky Food Events, who have an actual Masterchef team programme.

Give your folks a product that’s difficult to sell or has a very subtle value proposition, and tell them to devise a pitch for a commercial for that product.

It\ll get the creative juices flowing, while inciting them to work together to come up with an awesome commercial idea.

COMPETE IN A MINI OLYMPICS

As sporting events go, this is perhaps the highest profile of them all, and a perfect way for you to have a team building experience.

Like with Survivor, you can ask teams to make up a country and team colours.

The games can include things like tug of war, volleyball, egg and spoon races and so on.

HAVE A PARTY (YES, REALLY)

If you’re looking for something really simple, just go for a workplace party or a workplace picnic/outing.

Ask everyone to attend.

It’s a great opportunity for folks to mingle with one another, develop bonds and respect – which should follow through into their office work.
