SOAK UP THE SUN AT A BEACH

We have some of the most extraordinary beaches in Oz.

Mile upon mile of sandy white beaches, crystal clear water and perfect beach-going weather make chilling on a beach one of the best things to do in Perth.

Here are the five best beaches in and around Perth for you to explore.

Cottesloe Beach

One of our most iconic beaches, “Cott” is a mere 20 minute drive from Perth.

It’s best visited in the morning, before winds start blowing.

The nearby Marine Parade has a number of bars and restaurants that you can visit.

Cottesloe Beach Hotel in particular has a cheery summer vibe that many visitors find endearing.

Must-do things to do while in Perth.

Scarborough Beach

A.k.a. “Scabs”, Scarborough Beach is one of Australia’s most vibrant beaches, with a bustling promenade, large play spaces, art projects and so much more!

A great place for surfing and swimming.

City Beach

Mullaloo Beach

If you’re looking for a Perth beach to visit with kids, then this is the one for you. The waves aren’t that strong and even beginners can venture out for a swim.

There’s a grassy area with barbeques where you can have a picnic, and a playground for the children to play in.

Bathers Beach

Something about Bathers Beach you should know.

It’s possibly the first beach in Australia to be granted a license for serving liquor right on the sands.

Bathers Beach House (a restaurant) is a beneficiary of this license.

How you use this information is completely up to you 🙂

GO SNORKELLING

With our gorgeous bays, beaches and islands, it’s no surprise snorkelling is one of the most popular things to do in Perth.

From Yanchep Lagoon to Burns Beach and all the way up to Point Peron in Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, there are so many world class snorkeling spots for you to choose from!

EXPLORE KINGS PARK

Home to the Western Australian Botanic Garden, and with a variety of environments ranging from grassed parkland to natural bushland, Kings Park is a popular spot for walks and picnics.

Enjoy sweeping views of the park’s treetops and the Swan & Canning Rivers, learn about various kinds of plants found in Western Australia, and enjoy an Aboriginal cultural experience with a Nyoongar tour guide.

Visit the Lotterywest Federation Walkway

Beginning near the Lord Forrest statue and ending near the amphitheatre Beedawong, the Walkway is a combination on-ground pathways, elevated walkway and a spectacular steel and glass bridge.

Catch spectacular views of the Park’s treetops, the Perth skyline and of Swan River from the Walkway.

SOLVE YOUR WAY OUT OF AN ESCAPE ROOM

Looking for an adventure?

Team up with your family and friends to go on an escape room mission.

You and your group will be taken into a themed room where you’ll have to solve puzzles and crack codes to accomplish your mission.

But you’ll have to hurry before time runs out. Can you do it?

Here are some of Perth’s best-loved escape room missions for you to choose from.

GO BOOK SHOPPING

I know.

In an age of phones and PC’s bursting with visual content screaming for your attention, book shopping seems to be a rather antiquated thing to do.

On the other hand, Perth is teeming with numerous small and independent bookstores carrying all kinds of titles that are worth exploring.

And of course however good they make the Kindle it’s no substitute for holding a real paper book in your hand to read.

From Planet Books Northbridge in Northbridge to Crow Books in Vic Park, there are numerous options for you to choose from!

CONQUER A MINI GOLF COURSE

When is putt-putting ever a bad idea?

See if you can smash a hole in one at Wembley Mini Golf Course, hit up Holey Moley for a course of golfing with a side of burgers and cocktails, or explore Glowing Rooms, our first 3D glow in the dark mini golf course.

EXPLORE FREMANTLE MARKETS

Freo Markets is one of the most vibrant markets in the entire country.

Step inside and let the eclectic atmosphere marked by over a hundred years of heritage seep in.

Shop for fresh fruit & veg, sift through handcrafted souvenirs and accessories and try on locally made clothing.

And of course there are plenty of options to grab a hearty meal!

VISIT FREMANTLE PRISON

One of WA’s most fascinating and culturally significant attractions.

A long time ago, it was used to jail convicts transported here from Britain; and in those times it was well-known for a daring escape made by 6 Irish prisoners in 1876.

Nowadays it’s a World Heritage Site.

They have five different tours that you can choose from:

  • Convict Prison, that explores the history of the people who were incarcerated here.
  • Behind Bars, which places you in a prisoner’s shoes so you can understand what prison life here was like.
  • True Crime, attempting to get into the criminal mind.
  • Tunnels Tour, in which you slip into a hard hat and overalls and go deep into the bowels of the prison to explore a tunnel system built by the prisoners.
  • Torchlight Tour…I’ll leave this one to your imagination.

TEST YOUR GO KARTING SKILLS

Zipping through a Go Kart track at breakneck speeds – it’s a dream for all the adrenaline junkies and Mario wannabes out there!

It’s an amazing feeling and an unbeatable experience. Whether you’re a seasoned racer or a first timer, you’ll love every minute of it.

From PowerPlay Perth in Joondalup to The Kart Centre in Canning Vale and Hi Voltage in Belmont, there are a whole lot of options for you to choose from!

HEAD FOR ROTTNEST ISLAND

Few things in WA beat a trip to Rottnest Island.

Gather your mates – or go it alone – hop onto a morning ferry and you’ll be on Rotto before you know it!

A tranquil atmosphere, postcard-perfect scenery, pristine beaches and bays teeming with marine life await you on sunny Rottnest.

Go for a bike ride around the island, join a segway tour, skydive onto the beach and head into the pub for a welcome lunch when you’re famished.

Remember to catch a selfie with a quokka!

Here’s a fact about quokkas:

Google “quokka” and you’ll find one of the most asked questions about them is…

Is the quokka the happiest animal?

Indeed, these little marsupials are one of the best subjects for a selfie.

So, by all means, do try to take a selfie, but be warned that it’s not advisable to pet them as they are wild animals and have a nasty bite.

GET YOUR CAFFEINE FIX

I don’t know if you don’t know this but in recent years Perth has become Australia’s brew capital.

From the quintessential neighbourhood cafes to specialty coffee shops, there are numerous choices for you to have a sip of everything from a basic cold brew to a classic Brazilian espresso.

Telegram Coffee, La Veen Coffee and Mo Espresso are the places from where I’d make a start.

ENJOY THE WORLD’S MOST AWESOME SUNSET

Being on the west coast, our sunsets are sensational.

One of the best ways to enjoy it is on one of our beaches.

Get yourself some fish and chips, grab a bottle of beer and tuck into your spot to enjoy the glorious view of the sun dipping into the water in a blaze of magnificent colours.

HAVE A STAYCATION

Looking to escape the everyday grind and relax in style? A staycation at one of Perth’s many hotels is just what you need.

From just enjoying a refreshing sleep to camping out in your backyard to pampering yourself with a massage – there are all kinds of things you can try out on your staycation.

CRUISE DOWN SWAN RIVER

Take in magnificent sights of our city as you cruise the calm river waters from Freo to Perth.

Keep an eye out for the glass spire of the Bell Tower, the restored Swan Brewery, the magnificent mansions overlooking the river and Kings Park.

Most cruises include a complimentary lunch, many include wine tastings, and some will take you straight to the scene of the wine (the winery).

HEAD OUT ON A WALKING TOUR OF THE CITY

A walking tour is one of the best ways to really explore our most popular attractions. From street art to fine architecture, from historic sites to modern hotspots, there’s so much waiting to be experienced!

You can plan your own tour, or soak up crucial aspects of our history and culture with a tour guide.

GO BAR HOPPING

Along with becoming Oz’s “brew capital”, Perth has also become famous for “small bar culture” in recent years.

While the entire city is dotted with bars and pubs, most are concentrated in the CBD, Fremantle, the Mount Lawley area, Northbridge, and Victoria Park.

We can point you in the direction of Terrarium Bar, Henry Summer, The Flour Factory, Mrs Brown’s and El Publico.

CHECK OUT OUR STREET FOOD SCENE

When the sun goes down head to one of these buzzing suburban hawkers’ markets in Perth for a spot of dinner.

From Wanneroo Street Food to South Beach Sunset Markets, you’ll find food trucks and pop-up kitchens in every nook and corner.

Satiate your tastebuds with all kinds of dishes from around the world – it’s more like a culinary trip around the world than anything else!

SLIP INTO A COMEDY NIGHT EVENT

Perth hosts some really awesome comedy night events, so whenever you feel in need of a good belly laugh, you know where to go.

Start off at Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den and then work your way up to Comedy Lounge, Oasis Comedy Club and Fremantle Comedy Factory.

SAMPLE SOME OF PERTH’S MOST EXQUISITE CUISINES

Whether you’re looking for a cosy neighbourhood eatery experience or more buttoned up fine dining, there are plenty of options for you to choose from.

CATCH A MOVIE UNDER THE STARS

Located above the streets of Northbridge, Rooftop Movies offers an open-air cinema experience like no other.

Settle down in your comfy bean bags, make sure your beer is cold and the fish and chips are warm, and catch an eyeful of the stunning city skyline while you wait for the movie to begin!
