People who your parents disapprove of in front of you, but secretly adore and follow when they think you’re not looking.

Like it or not, celebrity culture is alive and thriving around the world.

What they say is heard by legions of fans, what they do sets trends.

And so, as an escape room enthusiast, I find myself asking the question – Which celebrities have done escape rooms?

And how do they feel about them?

Let’s find out!

MARTIN FREEMAN

Perhaps best known for his role in the television series Sherlock, Martin Freeman was spotted at an escape room modelled on that same show.

Martin Freeman at a Sherlock-themed escape room

In the words of a member of the staff at Sherlock: The Official Live Game, 221B,

“This man came in with a lady and a young girl. He had a hat and sunglasses on and kept his head down. I clocked straight away who it was! We checked the booking and it was booked under his girlfriend’s name…

He’d turned up with his girlfriend and his daughter to have some quality time together. Evidently, he’d heard that most escape rooms are great, family friendly experiences.

However, his long association with one of the greatest detectives of all time notwithstanding, he couldn’t find his way out in time!

ZOOEY DESCHANEL

She’s the goofy New Girl.

Actress, model and musician Zooey Deschanel has been reported to have enjoyed an escape room experience with her new beau, Jonathan Scott.

Zooey Deschanel went on an escape room date

Like I just said.

And, going by her Instagram, it was one experience she’s likely to remember.

She even says…

I am so grateful for every smile, kiss, hug, snuggle, laugh, scrabble game, escape room, breakfast, lunch and dinner we share together.

We say escape rooms make for great date nights, and Zooey Deschanel’s Insta post proves it!

VANESSA HUDGENS

You might remember actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens from the High School Musical series of films.

Guess where she spent her thirty first birthday…

Vanessa Hudgens celebrated her birthday at an escape room

At the time, she was in Edinburgh, filming the sequel to The Princess Switch.

Her birthday came up, and she decided to celebrate it at the Burke & Hare experience in the Edinburgh Dungeon.

It’s an escape game based on the notorious Burke & Hare murders that took place in Edinburgh in 1828.

And as far as the issue of finding your way out within sixty minutes is concerned, Vanessa absolutely KILLED it.

She did it in 36 minutes.

Talk about a thrilling birthday party!

CHRIS EVANS

He’s probably better known as Steve Rogers or “Cap” or Captain America than he is by his real name.

And he took part in an escape room experience that took him closer to superhero status in real life.

Doing an escape room with Steve Rogers

Interested players in Boston were told that a certain store was a secret Hydra base, and that they needed to take it down.

This is how it went down:

[F]ans had to “suit up” and find an undercover Hydra operative outside the store. With the help of said operative, they were led to the basement of the store where they met with Steve Rogers himself…

What makes this even better was that the entire experience was a charitable endeavour.

All proceeds and donations went to Christopher’s Haven, a non-profit that provides cancer patients and their families with suitable accommodation.

If that doesn’t make you a superhero, what does?

Which other celebrities do you know that did escape rooms and loved the experience?
